What is Creative Commons?

Creative Commons licensing is at the heart of the OER movement, inspired by people's willingness to share their creativity and knowledge. CC licenses are built on copyright and designed to give more options to creators who want to share their work. 

There are six Creative Commons licenses that provide a range of options for creators who what to share their work with the public while still retaining copyright. These licenses are irrevocable.   

Creative Commons License Chooser

Creative Commons provides a license statement-building tool that allows you to add one of the 6 license icons and copyright statements somewhere in your work. 

  1. Click on the Creative Commons License Chooser.
  2. Choose the License Features that meet your needs. 
  3. Copy and paste the license icon and copyright statement into your work.
