Young Adult Literature: Awards

The Printz is awarded annually by YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. It is awarded to the book a committee determines is of the highest literary quality of books published for young adults in the year. Up to 4 honor books are also named.

The Morris is awarded annually by YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. It is awarded for the best book written for teens by a first time author. In addition the the winner up to four finalist books are also named.

The NBA is awarded to a children's or young adult book. Usually the list of finalists includes books intended for or of interest to young adults.

IRA Young Adult Choices The International Reading Association's annual list selected by teens readers from books donated by publishers. Approximately 4500 students in grades 7-12 participate. The annotated list is approximately 30 titles.

Sixteen groups of teens from different libraries vote to create a nomination list from new and forthcoming boioks. In August and September, readers from age 12 to 18 vote online to create a list of ten titles that are announced during Teen Read Week.

YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults A committee of 15 members of the Young Adult Library Services Association a division of the American Library Association selects significant fiction books published in the preceding 16 months and creates an annotated list at the ALA Midwinter Conference each year.
